Aloe vera grows in most tropical and subtropical regions of the world, needs very little water and has been used as a medicinal plant in many cultures around the world for thousands of years. The desert plant, also known as the source of eternal youth, contains over 160 vital substances, the perfect interaction of which works wonders for both health and beauty. The contained amino acids, fatty acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals and vitamins have healing powers. The active ingredient Acemannan, in particular, is an effective healing aid: the polysaccharide is the basis for all connection-creating cells, including the skin, vessel walls, tendons, joints, cartilage, and ligaments and for the basic structure of the bones.

When buying an aloe vera plant, you should make sure that the “Barbadensis Miller” variety ends up in the shopping basket. This type of aloe has the healing powers described above. If you want to save yourself the work of processing fresh aloe vera, for example, to extract the gel from its leaves by hand, you can also use aloe vera juice or gel from health food stores or supermarkets. The following applies here: Organic products are generally better since neither preservatives nor other additives are included. The purer the quality, the better aloe vera works on health and beauty.
Beauty tricks for flawless skin
Vitamin pads: Take a leaf from a large aloe vera mother plant and cut off the spiky edge on both sides. Then cut the leaf into pieces about four centimeters wide. Divide each sheet gently horizontally so that the number of pads doubles. Scrape out the aloe vera gel with a knife and save for further use. The moist inside of the aloe vera leaves can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator and used, for example, to treat sunburn, acne, wounds, scars, mosquito bites or dry skin or as a cooling refreshment in between.
